One of the most unique events that Breckenridge hosts during the winter is the International Snow Sculpture Championships – a competition located in the heart of Breckenridge where professional snow sculpture artists from around the world create creative masterpieces out of huge slabs of snow. Not only is this a momentous time to be in Breckenridge due to over 150” of fresh snow on the mountain, this one-of-a-kind event is a true sight to see. If you will be in Breckenridge during January 24 to February 5, here is everything you need to know:

When:

This year marks the 27th International Snow Sculpture Championship and it is from January 24 to February 5, with January 24 to 28 the sculpting week where the artists stay up all night to create the sculptures. Viewing week to check out the completed sculptures is January 28 to February 5.

Where:

The snow sculptures will be located around the area of the Riverwalk Center at 150 West Adams Avenue.

Who:

16 sculpting teams from around the world will be participating in this year’s event. We are proud to sponsor Team USA Vermont – The 2016 Gold winner of the International sculptures! Last year’s winning sculpture was “Rhonda and Her Recycling Robo-Octups” – and piece depicting 14-year-old science whiz Rhonda riding inside her invention – the Robo-Octopus which helps clean the ocean floor.

Lodging:

Consider staying at Sawmill Creek, or One Breckenridge Place – both complexes are right across the street from the sculptures, with some condos available at Sawmill Creek that offer condos with balconies of the perfect view of town and the sculpture area. Another perfect lodging option is Park Avenue Lofts which is only a quick walk to downtown and the event. Book lodging with us now, and use promotion code WINE1617 to save 25% off your stay of 4 nights or more.

Stay tuned for a follow up blog with Team Vermont during the week of the event!
