Late spring and early summer are great times to visit Breckenridge, CO! This transition season may be the perfect time to enjoy peace and quiet on your next vacation. We have great suggestions to help you make the most of a mountain getaway when the crowds are small, and the weather warms up.
Stay Active
Hit the paved Recpath trails for biking fun to avoid softer terrain as the weather changes. There are over fifty miles of paths to explore, connecting Summit County to surrounding counties and towns. Choose your level of difficulty to make this the perfect family activity.
Breckenridge temperatures are perfect for outdoor activities in late spring and early summer. There are many early spring hiking opportunities around the Breckenridge area, and you can determine the best trails to hit by watching the weather and checking trail status. Stick to drier hiking trails or try snowshoeing and cross-country skiing where the snow is packed.
White water rafting on the Blue River is even more exciting after the spring thaw when the water is higher. Views of the Gore Range are worth the effort! River flow and weather in Breckenridge will vary (sometimes day-to-day), so be prepared with quick-dry layers, just in case.
Fly fishing is a popular way to spend a warm day (or two) in the Colorado mountains. The Mountain Angler and Breckenridge Outfitters are excellent resources to help plan a half or whole-day fishing trip.
Shop, Dine, and Explore History in Breckenridge
There is always something to do in Downtown Breckenridge. Our guests love shopping in unique stores on gorgeous Victorian-style Main Street. Some restaurants and stores close briefly during May to give their staff a break, but that doesn't have to hamper the fun on your vacation.
Spring is a wonderful time to learn more about the rich mining history of this quaint town. Country Boy Mine is another family-friendly attraction to see (and a major hit with kids). Some favorite activities include petting a burro, touring the gold mine, hunting for treasure, and snowshoeing on a self-guided tour of the property to reach the old miner’s cabin.
Beautiful Views
Breckenridge offers stunning vistas year-round, and every trip around town feels like a scenic tour. Higher elevation vantage points such as Boreas Pass Road will open to vehicle traffic in June, if not earlier. Breckenridge Overlook on Ski Hill Road is always a great spot to stop for pictures.
Wildflowers in bloom will make every outdoor adventure more picturesque! The Riverwalk Center, Breckenridge Alpine Garden, and hillsides all around town are perfect places to spot wildflowers.
